Bradley Calls 25 for January Camp (and yes, Brian Ching is one of them)

December 30th, 2008 | By: Brooks Peck | 8 Comments »

US MNT workouts begin January 4 at the Home Depot Center in preparation for a friendly against Sweden at the same spot 20 days later and Commander Bob has gotten a head start on the new year by calling in 25 players from MLS clubs and a few Scandinavian clubs for a little spice. Here’s the group:

GOALKEEPERS (4): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Will Hesmer (Columbus Crew), Troy Perkins (Valerenga IF), Matt Pickens (out of contract)

DEFENDERS (8): Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland), Sean Franklin (Los Angeles Galaxy), Cory Gibbs (Colorado Rapids), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Chris Wingert (Real Salt Lake), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)

MIDFIELDERS (9): Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Brian Carroll (Columbus Crew), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jack Jewsbury (Kansas City Wizards), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), John Thorrington (Chicago Fire)

FORWARDS (4): Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)

It’s similar to the roster for the last Guatemala match, only with a few improvements here and there. All I know is, if Cooper and Davies aren’t the starting strikers, I’m going to murder somebody.

Do our Europe based players have no time for this Sweden nonsense or something?

Who are some these dudes… Curious as to why US MNT would hold a ‘camp’ for a group of players, of whom about 3 out of every 4 guys has zero chance of making the trip to South Africa. Any inside scoop?

Also…….GREAT blog. Perfect for keeping tabs on USA players abroad and for team news. You’re the (wo)man. Keep doing how you did it how you do it how you done it.

…and I hope Subotic has fun in UEFA qualifying with Serbia. Don’t think we’ll see him at many WC finals over the course of his career. Cheers.

I hope B-Squared doesn’t mistake this friendly like last year as of high value with the absolute horrific mistake of starting Ramiro Corrales in last years Mexico game because he had a solid game in last years Sweden friendly. I like to call this matchup Fringe Cup II as it is a matchup of each sides fringe players. And in this years case judging by the callups that might be giving it too much credit.

Think we could get a petition around that asks for Brian Chingy to never get called up for USMNT duty?

Or would Chingy just use the paper to clean up his bloody nose?

elle: I knew you would be pleased by that.

B: Probably the latter. He’s ruined many a sleeve trying to stop those things before he passes out from the blood loss.

I’d love to see Wingert get a real chance. He is tough, fast, and can play both fullback spots. The USMNT is weak on the outside, and Wingert could earn himself a spot.

Any idea when we’ll learn where the rest of the ‘09 games are going to occur?
