Deuce Goes to Fulham; It’s Official!
Well he’s excited, and so am I!
Yes, it’s official, Clint Dempsey joins Fulham.
The tribunal deciding whether or not the New England Revolution star would receive an English work permit was held today, and his request was approved.
Clint’s official blog calls it a “Dreams Come True,” saying “it goes to show hard work pays off,” and that he’s “looking forward to putting on the Fulham jersey.”
Dempsey will be the third American to join the club’s roster, along with Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra. The Premiership team and Major League Soccer agreed to a transfer fee several days ago, however have been awaiting word from the Professional Footballers Association as to whether or not the American midfielder would be permitted to play.
We should see some action from Deuce soon, as Fulham manager Chris Coleman intends to play him, saying “it’s not like he’s coming here to sit on the bench. He’s coming because we’ve bought him to make a big impact.”
This is all great news for Clint, and his fans will certainly be happy about it. It’s a good addition for Fulham too, and it says a lot about the increase in quality of American soccer over the past few years.
Congratulations are in order Clint.
