Gulati and Bradley Meet With Fabio Capello

During the USMNT’s recent trip to Europe for the friendly with Sweden, USSF president Sunil Gulati and head coach Bob Bradley met with former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello in London to discuss “international and American soccer”.

About a month ago the rumor was flying about Capello “being in talks” for a job in the states. Now it seems possible that Capello could be Gulati’s target for the technical director’s position for the US Men’s National Team. Talk about a perfect hire.

You miss out on the international cred when Klinsi rejects you, then you come back and hire Fabio Capello, while still having an American favorite Bob Bradley running most of the on the field buisness, for now. Not to mention if (hopefully not) Bob turns out to be the wrong man for the job, you have the best number two on the depth chart in the world.

Bringing someone with Capello’s wealth of world soccer knowledge would be a major coup for the USSF. But as of now it is all just speculation. For now I at least hope the relationship and openess to meetings continues and formulates into the technical director position in the future.

What do you think of the meeting with Capello?

Hopefully Capello gets hired in some respect for the USMNT. While Real Madrid may not have won La Liga “stylishly,” they still won. Anything Capello could do to aid US Soccer would be welcome.

I dunno. In terms of knowledge, Capello would obviously be a huge catch. But I dunno how interested he’d be in wholeheartedly committing to the job, especially in the #2 position. And, I have to say, he acting like a jackass with Beckham, which worries me about how he’d treat less famous American players. Intriguing possibility but not one that screams certain success.
