I think I know why the Irish would support Mexico...they have green shirts and they're a mostly Catholic country.

Back in 1848 when we were at war with Mexico there was some Irish immigrants who deserted the U.S. Army and joined up with the Mexican Army because they would have rather fought alongside their fellow Catholics. We later captured and hanged them. In Mexico they're known as 'San Patricios' (Saint Patricks)

Plenty of duds have been looked at by Arsenal... heck, one of them even manages to log minutes in the Champions League (Bendtner). Freddy Adu represented an attacking threat to a Spanish side that was trying to avoid injury just prior to Euro 2008... and now can't get a game for his midtable French club. Jozy Altidore isn't playing for a second division Spanish club. Michael Bradley's team will probably be relegated this season. Where exactly is all this optimism coming from, pray tell? In the grand scheme of things, American players are still as insignificant as ever.

I remember people years ago loved the Adu vs. Messi debate. Some even tried to claim that Altidore had more potential than Karim Benzema... a guy who has trouble controlling the ball in MLS is compared to the best pure striker of his generation. More than anything, US fans are DELUSIONAL.
