Mamma Mia! Szetela to Roma

Ives Galarcep at the Herald News is reporting that United States U-20 midfielder Danny Szetela has agreed to a contract with serie a giants A.S. Roma.

Just yesterday I posted a transfer bit about Lazio looking to wrap up a deal for Danny, but now it seems their city rivals the Gillarossi decided it was them who were to bring the young New Jersey boy to Rome, not Lazio.

Saying I am excited for this move would be the understatement of the century. Not only will Danny be one of the few Americans ever to play in the Serie A, he will be doing it with a constant Champions League squad who challenges the giants of Milan for silverwear in all categories, every year. Not only that, but he will be in training with Francesco Totti. Being a young American going to a new club, you could not wish to be around a beter, more impressive, and more legendary player than Totti at Roma. Not to mention Spalletti is in my opinion the best manager in Italy right now.

Thinking about it, this could very well be the biggest club an American has ever played at, period. Right now without giving it much thought I’d say Danny at Roma and Freddy at Benfica are about tied at the top for the honor.

Just a really cool move for the kid. Not to mention he will have the pleasure of donning the sickest kits in Serie A this year.

Sounds like he will fly out to one of my favorite cities in a few weeks to finalize the deal at Roma’s headquarters, but he will not be with the club until the winter window when his current MLS deal runs out.

So pumped.

And after I let the Szetela excitement wind down a bit today after about three hours of pissing my pants, what do I find?

Feilhaber to Derby!

Shnikeys this day is out of control. Yeah I said it, holy fricken shnikeys.

Alot of people are unsure on this move but I deffinatley like it, and thats not just the Szetela buzz transfering over.

Nothing is 100% yet, but from what I am reading this one seems all but.

First off he will probably get tons of playing time, which was sort of an uncertainty at HSV for whatever reasons, although recentley he looked to secure somewhat of a spot. Benny is probably going to be one of the most talented midfielders on the team, and I am very interested to see how his game progresses in the blinding speed of the Prem. I think this is a greta next step up for Benny and will probably speed up his development significantly. He will be counted on for his role at the club and that will only do good things when he comes back to the national team.

Plus we can all keep easier tabs on him through FSC.

And to cap off an exciting day of transfer triumphs for America, Beasley showed that Yankees can actually play and not just work sick moves abroad by scoring the loan goal in a 1-0 victory for Rangers over FK Zeta in Champions League qualifying, sending the ‘Gers through to the next round. Bease loves his Champions League scoring in any club, any country, any stage.

Don’t forget that Tim Howard played at Man U.

Correct Jake, I had that thought wandering in my head as I fell asleep last night. I guess I should have clarified field player. No hate towards the goalies, Timmy is my boy since the Metrostars days, but a field player at a big club is different. The world knows we have goalies.

You right. It is encouraging to see these younger field players signing with bigger clubs. Now we just need them to play!
