Onyewu’s English Move Back On

August 1st, 2006 | By: Daryl | 4 Comments »

Oguchi Onyewu’s move to Middlesbrough fell apart after the World Cup. Even when Boro’s preferred target (Robert Huth) failed a medical they didn’t come back for Gooch, but the big man could be crossing the water anyway.

Gooch is now being linked with a £2.5 million move to Fulham, where he’d team up with Carlos Bocanegra and Brian McBride in the Premiership.

West Bromwich Albion are also rumoured to be interested, though it’s unclear whether Gooch would fancy playing in the Championship.

I’d love to see Gooch playing with Celtic. He definitely could earn a spot with the Bhoys (and, maybe…maybe, make up for Claudio’s decision to play for…for…for the other team in the Old Firm.)

It was actually Gooch who reportedly turned down the offer from Boro before the WC in June. He said there were a lot of good things about the team and the contract but a couple things on it that held him back, so he declined. It is good to see he got another offer.

Adam,

I’d heard that too, but couldn’t find a quote. If you remember where you saw it would you let me know?

It was actually two different articles I read that bled together in my mind. Most of the information came from here: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=375065&cc=5901, but they made it sound like this just happened. In an article at yanks abroad they said this occured in June. I can’t find that article now because I don’t know how to go back to older articles. It was posted about 4 days ago but on the front page you can only view articles written the past couple days. Hope that helps.
