Is Nowak Wack?

July 23rd, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | No Comments »

Is Peter Nowak wiggidy wack?

I’m truly having trouble deciding. While “New Guy” Brooks was my main source of updates on the Olympic qualifying via the invention of text messaging while I was down in the nether-region of the deep south where activities such as “mudding” and “wing barf night” (honestly) are held to a higher esteem than soccer, I still got a sense from those very text messages that Nowak might have brought the suck a little in his first run out with the U-23’s. Ok, truthfully I did watch the games when I returned to civilization, but the team did lack a little something. Perhaps it was their inability to do that thing where the ball meets the net or maybe they were spending too much time coloring Easter eggs and gorging on Peeps. Either way, who do we blame for that? The coach, of course.

Ehh. Not so fast.

I’m not quite ready to put up my petition for US Soccer to divorce the fiery Pole, who plays gaffer to the Olympic squad (which just gathered for training today). All I really want to see is the team take on a little bit of his fiery persona.

In qualifying, the USA looked Charmin Ultra Soft. Not good. All I’m saying is the young ones need a little bite to match the bark of their talent, and that needs to come from their skipper. So those U-23’s better strap on their pregnancy pants and prepare to have Nowak force feed them a heavy helping of potato and rage pierogis. But if Nowak can’t instill that fightin’ spirit, then he may be out.
