Roster Likely to Be Filled After Tonight
With the Fire going toe-to-toe against Chivas USA tonight in ESPN2’s Thursday night match up, expect those in the American player pool to be called into camp tomorrow. Oh, btw, Drew Moor was called in, no biggie. Here is who is in camp as of now…
Goalkeepers (3): Dominic Cervi (out of contract), Tim Howard (Everton FC), Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake)
Defenders (6): Carlos Bocanegra (out of contract), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Drew Moor (FC Dallas), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege) , Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)
Midfielders (4): DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Eddie Lewis (Derby County), Danny Szetela (Brescia)
Forwards (2): Freddy Adu (SL Benfica), Eddie Johnson (Fulham FC)
Now, let’s look at some players available in tonight’s fixture to see who else will be getting the call from big Bob.
Justin Mapp -> One of the more pacey (so not a word) and tricky wingers that the USA has at its disposal, sadly, like a young Crsitiano Ronaldo, much of his pomp and flair doesn’t lead to anything. Even more sadly, is that is the only form in which he is similar to a young Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ante Razov-> Another one of Bob’s old-time favorites. This pool is light on forwards as you can see, so don’t be astonished to see Ante get a call, although it wouldn’t be very productive.
Chris Rolfe-> I still consider him a forward for the national team, although Chicago has stuck him out wide this year. So far he hasn’t been as hot as he was for the Fire’s playoff run last year, but yet again, he is another player Bob is familiar with.
Chad Barret-> Chad is a product of the Eddie Johnson school of finishing. The scary thing though, is that he exemplifies the deft skill of being unable to hit the broad side of a barn in MLS, where Eddie, untrue to character, could rack up three goals before the 75th minute. Still a decent bet to get called, as he could be part of the set-up with the Olympic squad.
