The Olympics. What have we learned?

Insomnia. I have it and I’ve spent the past ooooh no-idea-how-long thinking about our WNT and the Olympics and the lessons we are going to take from all of this. Ok, besides the big “Pia gets to keep her job” lesson. Here are some other little tidbits:

Angela Hucles straight up has the coolest sounding last name. I just wanted to say it over and over and I think the Olympic commentators did too.

Bring on the new kids. Tobin Heath, Amy Rodriguez, and Lauren Cheney had some pretty brillz moments during the tournament and totally should be household names except we were all too busy watching girl-child-linebacker-gymnasts and “El Douche” Phelps.

Heather Mitts is getting PAID. The comeback kid certainly came back and thanks to the kind of cute and harmless crush SF at The Offside Rules has on her, I now know she’s revamped her website (looks great btw) and will be on the cover of September’s In Style magazine. C.R.E.A.M. girl!

The media won’t stop kicking the dead horse. I’m very very happy Hope Solo had a great Olympics but after Andrea Canales linked a loooong list of Solo articles all basically saying the same thing, I – uh – got a leetle bit annoyed. This topic is DONE people. I’m sure there are loads more subjects to write about when it comes to our WNT.

There’s probably some other post-Olympics stuff to comment on but this is all I can think of at 4am. And apparently US Soccer plans to add seven more dates to the Fall Tour so perhaps us West Coasters won’t get left out after all. Yay.
