They Don’t Have Beckhams in Europe, Do they?

July 24th, 2008 | By: Brooks Peck | 4 Comments »

Having conquered his fear of the alligator under his bed and the boogeyman in his closet, it sounds like Landon Donovan is now ready to give Europe another try.

Interestingly enough, this revelation comes on the heels of Landycakes’ one year anniversary of living in David Beckham’s shadow with the L.A. Galaxy. Funny that once Donovan is no longer anywhere near being the biggest fish in his relatively small pond, he suddenly wants to risk another crippling bout of homesickness by going abroad for a greater challenge.

And what of his lovely wife?! She’s somewhat tied down in L.A., where she co-stars in a TV show with Joe Dirt and David Puddy, and let’s face it, when you land a part in a David Spade vehicle, you don’t let that go (…because it will probably be canceled before you can).

In the end, I say this is just Landon trying to get a little attention focused back on him…but if he does end up on the other side of the Atlantic, I’m going say that I never doubted it for a second and you’re going to go along with it. Deal?

Oh, and in case you missed it before – yeah, I’m new here.

I hope he goes. I want to like landy again, like I did in ‘02. When he’s on form he’s fun to watch and like it or not he’s a big part of the USMNT. If he does go I hope its because he truly wants the challenge and wants to reinvent himself as a player, not because the Golden One has “stolen his ball” in LA.

By the way that last post came from the John in my office in SLC, not Germany, as it mistakenly says ;)

Two things, CW:

1) I agree with your first comment.

2) When you’re writing comments from the office toilet (you take your computer in there with you? That’s risky. I’d probably drop it in.), please keep that information to yourself. I mean, I’m not about to tell you that I’m writing this while getting a prostate exam.

3) If it says you’re posting from Germany, you’re posting from Germany. Tell Luca Toni I said hi.

Blackberry, man. The country selection box doesn’t seem to work with my phone. I’m in salt lake city.
