With Action Ahead, Transfer Rumors Swirl
Ok, the hiatus is officially over.
Time to get things back in gear, which I could have written about a week ago, but let’s make do.
Where to begin…
The Men have the Sweden friendly coming up this weekend, as they just wrapped up Day 12 of their camp at the Home Depot Center.
Eddie Johnson has left camp to travel across the pond to hopefully finalize a transfer to the club apparently doubling as the American Embassy in London, Fulham FC. This move would have the Grown Ass Man sharing a locker room (or is there a weird English footy word for that too?) with Kasey Keller, Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey, and Brian McBride.
This move is would be the first positive point of forward momentum for EJ in a while. He had the hot streak, and then turned into the most scared forward in the USA player pool, while continuing to just drop handfuls of goals on the MLS defenders who couldn’t touch his pure speed when he decided to use it. This move will proved EJ with the opportunity to further his soccer skills and striker instincts to a point where, coupled with his speed, he could finally become a force for the national team that many thought he would be by now. Ok, for now, maybe force is a little to strong, how about not cause droves of USMNT fans not to boycott his every selection? That would be an acceptable step forward at this point.
In other transfer rumors and news, Benny Feilhaber and Jonathan Bornstein are said to be on their way to Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. For Benny I like this move. He gets to flee the cellar of the Prem. and promise of being moved down to the English Championship where it will be much more difficult to be recognized by other prospective buyers. Making the move to Israel will provide him with opportunity for European competition, giving Benny the stage to eventually move on to a club in a more respected league. Many would rather see Benny in MLS, but being abroad matures a player much more than returning home and will eventually pay dividends on the field with the US National Team.
On the Bornstein side of things, I’m a little iffier. I don’t think Jonny is in a position at this point in his young career where he needs to force a move to the Israeli league when in the near future, with the combination of his talent, youth, and rising number of caps, will have many clubs from top tier leagues calling his agent.
Ok that’s enough transfer talk for one post, I’ll be back with some other stuff throughout the lead up to the friendly, so be on the lookout.
Thoughts on the transfer rumors? Think EJ can make it at Fulham? Scratching your head on the possible Maccabi transfers?

“Dressing room” is the weird English term, but Fulham may as well go with “locker room” since half the team is going to be American now. Maybe Fulham are trying to recreate the Team America thing from ‘76?
