Just one more thing, I couldn't find World Cup rosters with teams, but 1998 and 1994 had to be pretty small in numbers. Going by memory.

in 98, I'm thinking Reyna, David Regis (who was naturalized weeks before the Cup), Friedel and Keller.

in 94....Reyna, Harkes, Keller, Bueller?????

Agree on Borussia, but unlike last year, Yanks seem to be on the better end of the promotion/relegation battles. 'Gladbach is the only team in the relegation zone (among teams who feature a Yank).

One situation to keep an eye on...Heath Pierce at Hansa Rostock. He isn't playing on a team that could very well get relegated out of the 2. That does not bode well for us at left back. This is where not getting Subotic hurts. Boca could have slid over to LB.

We need to get Spector healthy and playing...quickly.

Good work, Nick.

Have to think we can add to that number before the world cup rolls around. Sacha's current position alone should do the trick.

Out of boredom, I wanted to see if US top players are making more progress on moves into Europe's top leagues. I examined the 2002, 2004 World Cup roster, and what I think will be a likely 2006 WC roster. The answer is "yes."

For the purposes of this deal, I didn't include players who were on top teams who weren't in a top 5 leagues.

2002 (8 Players)
Friedel, Brad Blackburn Rovers (England)
Hejduk, Frankie Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)
Keller, Kasey Tottenham Hotspur (England)
Lewis, Eddie Fulham (England)
Moore, Joe-Max Everton (England)
Regis, David FC Metz (France)
Reyna, Claudio Sunderland (England)
Sanneh, Tony FC Nuremberg (Germany)

2006 (6 Players)
Player Club
Bocanegra, Carlos Fulham FC (England)
Cherundolo, Steve Hannover 96 (Germany)
Howard, Tim Everton FC (England)
Keller, Kasey Bor. M'gladbach (Germany)
McBride, Brian Fulham FC (England)
Reyna, Claudio Manchester City (England)

2010 (10 Players?)
Player
Carlos Bocanegra - D, Rennes (France)
Landon Donovan - M/F, Bayern Munich (Germany)
Tim Howard - GK, Everton (England)
Michael Bradley - M, Borussia Mönchengladbach (Germany)
Clint Dempsey - M/F, Fulham (England)
Steve Cherundolo - D, Hannover 96 (Germany)
Freddy Adu - M/F, Monaco (France)
Josmer Altidore - F, Villareal (Spain)
Brad Guzan - GK, Aston Villa (England)
Jonathan Spector - D, West Ham United (England)

* - For 2002, John O'Brien and Brian McBride were not included though the argument could be made they were at that level.
* - 2006 Eddie Lewis and Landon Donovan.
* - 2010 Hopefully, we can say similar things about Kenny Cooper, Sacha Kljestan, etc...
