Request for comments

I just spotted this video clip over at the Special1 TV blog. It’s from some sort of show on Fox News (sorry, don’t watch that channel) where the panelists debated Sunil Gulati’s recent comments that Obama’s election will help with America’s World Cup bid(s). Dave over at Special1 is not impressed and writes: “this is why the game has zero credibility in the USA & why it is impossible for the game to succeed stateside.” After I watched the video, I think it is very clear the panelists don’t know very much about the sport, but I’m pretty sure they intentionally upped the saracasm and the foolishness of their comments to highlight Gulati’s (I have to admit) silly comments. I honestly don’t think they intentionally bashed soccer (except the woman’s hooliganism comments were insulting – as if there’s never been a fight ever in American sports), but I think the panelists displayed a very very American sense of humor here. Humor that could quite literally be lost in translation. What say you readers? Please watch and comment!
