@tm –
we played Clark and Bradley together in the mid for the Confed Cup and did pretty well, and I think Edu is better than Clark offensively at least. The fact is Edu and Bradley played well together. Torres is too small, he was a pinball against the netherlands and England will do the same to him, I havent understood the infactuation with torres that every US fan seems to have, he is a good player but not the God send everyone seems to think….and I’ve never really fancied feilhaber…I think Edu and Benny should be situational starters. Demps up top with Jozy if Davies cant make it and Holden n LD out wide. PS Word is Demps is available today for Fulham vs Juventus!

I say put Holden and Dempsey in mid. I would love to see that. Put Feilhaber on a wing …

And yet there is the Adddduuuuuuuuuuuuuu ……..

@bird
i agree that torres was knocked around by the dutch at first but AFTER the assistant talked to him during the holden injury he was a completely different player more aggressive, more creative on the ball so i think torres is good after he calms down

i have a question i know the final 23 man squad is due by around may i think. let’s say bradley names jones and it ends up he can’t play. can bradley name a replacement or are we down to 22 men?

He names a prelim squad before the camps, he can change it if someone is injured or unimpressive in the May friendlies. As our injuries are concerned, I see him bringing in more than 23 to camp and judging fitness from there. At least, that’s what I would do since half our team is injured or has been. The final roster is due June 1st or the 10th, I’m not sure which.

i think the reason everyone likes torres is because hes prob our best midfield canadate on the ball, its tought to judge how he did agaist the dutch bc imagine u just got ur first start for the usa in about 9 months and you only have a half to show how you could do-pretty tough. i just rather see the us try and get some offensive playmaker in the middle of the field

the interesting thing about the confed cup was at that time we considered bradley our offensive center mid. as we saw against the netherlands that changed because he gives the ball away a whole lot. im actually more concerned with how our fullbacks are going to deal with the likes of lennon and walcott because our defense is very very slow so playing 2 center mids might not be the worst idea but i rather see the us try and attack then just sit and defend the whole time

June 1st the final 23 man roster is due to FIFA. Then usually there is an alternate that travels with the team and can be added in case of injury before the team plays its first game. Only then a player could be added. Once your team plays its first game no alternate player can be added for any reason.

I’d imagine Bob Bradley would name his final 23 man roster bt May 30th because that’s when the team departs for South Africa. But he will likely names a 30-35 man provisional roster in early May for the pre-WC camp.

Greg Berhalter was added in 2006 when Cory Gibbs was injured. This happened in May however.

We have much to improve, but there are many surprises and see with eyes optimistic and always believing the best for us, but we know the strength of the other clubs, a hug for everyone

pseudinho- i think that sub is only applicable for goalkeepers (i would imagine if at least 2 get injured). i dont think it applies for outfield players.

Daryl, if we had Jermaine Jones I would start him and Holden, but there is no way Bob Bradley would ever do that.

Now if we could just get Rossi back from those bastage Italians…we could have a very solid team on our hands…

The Netherlands game made me a Beasley fan again. He was the most dangerous player on the pitch in the last fifteen minutes. He’ll go to South Africa and he’ll play.

And I agree with Jen re Torres – I thought he had some of the most effective moments vs the Dutch (and a few poor ones too, to be fair). Tough to pair him with Bradley though.

Is this list some sort of joke? Where is Jermaine Jones? Jones on one leg is better than half of those guys on two. Also, why put a mid 30’s Hejduk on the list, regardless of experience, given how badly he played in the last inernational friendly. Finally, there is not a chance in hell that Jeff Cunningham, nor Conor Casey will make the final roster. If they do, we will be laughed out of South Africa.

The highlights showed a pretty weak German defense. I say wiped the floor cause Germany was destroying teams before the US beat them (again). Like England and I think North Korea? with these alarmingly lopsided scores.

@ ben
i agree tht casey and cunningham suck and hedjuk prob wont go because bette roptions have come up but jones doesnt even play for his club because of an injury hes had for what seems like forever besides the fact he has 0 caps for the usa. whens the last time a team took an out of form player with 0 caps to the world cup….never

No the sub alternate applies to all players before the team plays their first game but each team must submit a full roster to FIFA by June 1st. And can only use the alternate player if another roster player gets injured between June 1st and the first game of their World Cup campaign. All teams must keep 3 goalkeepers however. If any get injured during the World Cup they cannot be replaced. Heck even if all 3 get injured they cannot be replaced on the roster.

if he’s available he’ll be there. him meeting the other players in the netherlands proves that bradley is planning on adding him

Important Roster Dates

- 35 man provision roster named May 12th
- 23 man roster must be named before opening match between Mexico and South Africa who play on June 11th
- a team is allowed to replace a player on the roster due June 11th only if the player being taken off is seriously injured and they must do this 24 hours before kickoff of their first match of the tournament.

Often many teams name a final roster in late May and early June and bring an alternate or two with them to the World Cup in case of a serious injury before their opening match or before rosters are officially due.
