Don’t Give it to Tiger

November 12th, 2008 | By: Melissa | 3 Comments »

It’s time to break out the long, drawn out, and ever popular stories of sportspeople battling huge adversaries only to triumph… yet still walk away with a smile on their face and a skip in their step. Oh yeah, I think some people call that “professionalism.” Anyways, fresh from getting benched, ostracized from her team, and the death of her father & her best friend, Hope Solo still managed to keep it together over the summer to help her – at times, not-so-forgiving team – win an Olympic gold medal and subsequently erase much of the bad juju hanging around (mostly from the media) after the 2007 World Cup. And now, with everything said and done, our Hope was just nominated for the 2008 FIFA player of the year award (alongside Shannon Boxx) as well as the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award. I think she’s the only female nominated so I’ll cut SI’s title some slack. And you know that picture above is really Hope showing off her “Two For Two, B*tches!” pose.

I saw Hope Solo at a coffee shop in D.C. a few months ago. I’m still kicking myself for not convincing her to run away with me and make a passel of goal-keeping babies. I’m pretty sure she’d have agreed to if if I’d asked. I could tell by the way she completely ignored me.

I’m not going to weigh in on this because I don’t want the internet community to think less of me.
