Pia names the usual (healthy) suspects to the Algarve Cup roster

February 5th, 2009 | By: Melissa | 2 Comments »

Gone from the list are the youngsters in camp. The final cut belongs to the veterans. But with Wambach & Osborne injured and Markgraf at home eating pickles (I’ve heard pregnant women crave pickles – go figure), there’s a teensy bit of room for some new faces. Namely, uncapped Kendall Fletcher and once capped Tina DiMartino. Megan Rapinoe also made the cut so it appears she is back with a vengeance. Here’s the final list

GOALKEEPERS (2): Nicole Barnhart (FC Gold Pride), Hope Solo (St. Louis Athletica);
DEFENDERS (5): Rachel Buehler (FC Gold Pride), Lori Chalupny (St. Louis Athletica), Kendall Fletcher (Los Angeles Sol), Heather Mitts (Boston Breakers), Christie Rampone (Sky Blue FC);
MIDFIELDERS (7): Shannon Boxx (Los Angeles Sol), Tina DiMartino (FC Gold Pride), Carli Lloyd (Chicago Red Stars), Heather O’Reilly (Sky Blue FC), Lindsay Tarpley (Chicago Red Stars), Kacey White (Sky Blue FC), Angie Woznuk (St. Louis Athletica);
FORWARDS (4): Angela Hucles (Boston Breakers), Natasha Kai (Sky Blue FC), Megan Rapinoe (Chicago Red Stars), Amy Rodriguez (Boston Breakers).

…and what also made the cut are Natasha Kai’s shoes.

Hey, don’t mock the shoes. Pink cleats are in, just ask Franck Ribery.

Hopefully this tournament will be on TV, given the Olympic win.

So far, outlook not good but I’m gonna scour the internets closer to the tourney & cross my fingers.
