We’re ready for our close-ups (otherwise known as, Where my girls at?)
I should be working on the huge project… that pays me… that’s due tomorrow, but instead I bring you post number one on our women’s national team. I’ll be with you through the Olympics and hopefully afterwards (can bloggers get fired if they aren’t being paid?) to cover the number one ranked national team in the world. Yup, that’s right. We are number one. Ever since the debacle that was last year’s World Cup, we very ungraciously slipped to – I believe third (don’t quote me on that). But after a highly publicized Head Coach change, we suddenly found clarity, focus, and maybe even some serenity (again, don’t quote me on that). We won a few tournaments and slowly but surely inched our way back to the top spot.
So here we are at the eve of the Olympics and now the world is watching us again. Yeah, it’s a big deal. It’s such a big deal, our Head Coach thinks she will get fired if we don’t bring home the gold. It’s such a big deal that when our leading goal scorer broke her leg in last week’s friendly against Brazil, the incident was a top story in the sports press. I get the sense (but again, I would highly suggest you don’t quote me on any of this) that our performance during the Olympics is the make it or break it event to wash away the bad juju from last year and make everything wonderful and awesome again… just in time for the new league to start which I oh so conveniently write about over at The Offside.
Ok, I’m done plugging myself and I really need to get back to work now so I’ll wrap it up. But watch this space! See you soon.

i’m still bummed abby wambach got injured, hope the rest of the team can pick up the slack

I think we underestimate how good finishers like Kai really are. I’m going into this tournament thinking positive.

Hey Mel,
I think this is an excellent endevour for you. Keep up the great work!
Oh. And Email me. I wanted to share some info.

having seen natasha kai in person, quite honestly, i’m more impressed with her than i ever was with wambach. while wambach was a huge loss for the USA team, i think it would be a discredit to the team to overestimate the impact her absence will have on their success. the US women’s soccer program is the best in the world. the absence of one player won’t down their success.
(you listening Argentina men’s team?)
