Checking In Again, It’s Almost June…Kind Of
Sorry that I haven’t posted in a few weeks. Here’s a look at what has been going on during my absence, and a brief look ahead at the upcoming matches:
• The United States will play Sweden in Sweden, Wednesday, August 22. This match falls on an international fixture date, so expect to see the best (that kinda rhymes – not really though…or is that called assonance?).
• The USA will play China in a friendly on June 2 in San Jose.
• Less than a week later, the Gold Cup begins! The US meets Guatemala in Carson, California.
Check out the bottom of this page for a complete schedule.
I’ll be posting more within the next week, but for now I have some questions for you guys.
1) Which summer tournament do you think is more important? The Gold Cup, or Copa America?
2) What starting line-up do you envision, or hope for, in the upcoming friendly and Gold Cup tournament?
3) Do you agree that it’s pretty clear that Bob Bradley’s here to stay, or do you think that Sunil Gulati will give him the last minute boot?
4) Eric Wynalda as commentator on ESPN: thumbs up or thumbs down?
I’ll post my own opinions later. Stay tuned and stay red, white, and blue.

Both, some players should prepare for long summers competing in both
3) Do you agree that it’s pretty clear that Bob Bradley’s here to stay, or do you think that Sunil Gulati will give him the last minute boot?
I thought Bob was already cut loose
4) Eric Wynalda as commentator on ESPN: thumbs up or thumbs down?
Wynalda is the most honest man in US soccer, both thumbs way up!

As far as I know, he’s still marked as “interim.” If someone knows otherwise, please let me know.
As far as your comments on Wynalda, I couldn’t agree more. I think that the ESPN commentators often talk too much during the games (which makes me tune them out) but I think Wynalda is great. He knows what he’s talking about, and has the experience as a player.

Welcome back, stranger!
1) Copa America vs. Gold Cup: I don’t care, but don’t think it’s fair to MLS teams to require players to play in both.
2) Your call. Ask me about the FRENCH team.
3) I think Bob is toast. If he were going to be permanent, he would be by now.
4) Wynalda both entertains and infuriates me. The EGO on that man!!! He has to constantly talk about how much he knows about soccer and the fact that no matter what happens on the field, he’s been there, done that. And between him and Tommy Smyth, sometimes I just want to scream “Shut UP already and let us watch the game!!!!
And yet his Jim Rome comments were priceless, and SOMEBODY needed to say them.

1. The Gold Cup is more important for U.S. Soccer. If you win that you get an autmatic birth to The Confederations Cup. Major International Tournament experience is important to the future of this team and The COnfederations Cup would provide tat if they win The Gold Cup. Copa de America is important more for respect Globaly.
2. Howard
Cherundolo-Gibbs-Onyewu-Bocanegra
Dempsey-Donovan-???????-Beasley
Twellman-Johnson
3. I just heard Bradley will get the interim tag removed.
4. I like Wynalda as a broadcaster. He keeps us entertained if the game sucks.

Hmm. I heard a rumor that they made Bradley the new USMNT coach. If only there were a website related to the USMNT where I could read posts about such things. Maybe one with an especial emphasis on the World Cup?
