Juanderful!
Hopefully Michael will give a more detailed post-game analysis. But to me there are two takeaways from the US draw with Argentina tonight. First, that we are better off with a 4-4-2 than a 4-2-3-1. Second, that the second half of the 2 should be Juan Agudelo.
The first half was like a bad display of catenaccio for the US. Maybe if Holden had been in the middle it might have been different, but I sort of doubt it. Argentina controlled possession and it was just a metter of time before they put it in.
At half time Bradley switched to a 4-4-2, swapping Agudelo up front for Jones in the deep mid. He also took Spector out for our new Germerican player, Timothy Chandler. It made a difference. The US looked threatening the entire second half and Agudelo was in the right place at the right time and showed just the right flash of talent to put the ball in the net.
Would have nice to have led with the headline We Juan. But when playing against the best player in the world and one of the best teams, I’ll settle for the draw.
