Podcast: USA v Turkey – Hooliganism, Match Analysis, and Interviews With Gooch, Findley, Altidore, Torres, Howard

100_3618Last Saturday, The Total Football Soccer Show made the long trek up I-95 to attend the USA-Turkey match at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. After much revelry Friday night and Saturday morning, three of your four co-hosts found themselves in the middle of Sam’s Army (the USA’s hardcore supporters) for most of the game.

The fourth? Is me… and I was lucky enough to score a press pass for this match, allowing me to attend the post-match press conference with Bob Bradley and conduct a few interviews with some of the American players. So, this week we bring you a different sort of podcast. We still break down the Turkey game and find a good amount of time to mock Jonathon Spector, but we also include some interview segments with Oguchi Onyewu, Robie Findley, Jozy Altidore, Jose Torres and Tim Howard that were particularly interesting. Hopefully, the fact that we left out all the audio of our semi-drunken tailgating makes this an easier listen. Audio links and further photos after the jump.

And, as always, you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes by clicking here or go here for a direct download of the episode.

Tim Howard on yelling at defenders who allow opposition players to get shots at goal:

“One time you get a look, the second time you're going to get a telling off.”

    Brilliant.

I don't want throw any bad speculation around and any possible holy sh*ts, but I just saw on sportscenter that jozy altidore sprained his ankle at practice yesterday and could potentially miss some of the tournament. I hope its not a big deal.

Sometimes I wonder: if I was a World Cup USA coach what could I do to surprise the other group teams. In these days, technology allows even a fisherman, in a southeast asian, non-qualified world cup nation, to be able to follow and know about even the most personal of events around the preperation of our players. With everything so transparent, I would probably mix my formations and try players in different positions ( EXPERIMENTING )during the final friendlies. Maybe I would tell my defensive players to take it easy and to just warm up during these pre-WC matches, since I already had alot of time to figure out who and how to play in group stage at least. I would even throw in a fake fight between players to fake a possible failure of comunication between our starting offensive players……………….I HOPE THATS WHATS GOING ON WITH THE USA MNT. I hope BB shows us that he is a crafty tactician and that Bornstein show us that he went to south africa to do more than to make sandwiches!!!!
