US-Mexico Sold Out! Kick off 7:25 p.m. M.T.

February 7th, 2007 | By: Connor Fabiano | 6 Comments »

The US-Mexico friendly is SOLD OUT with over 60,000 fans expected to arrive at University of Phoenix Stadium tonight.

Live coverage begins at 7 p.m. M.T. on both EPSN2 and Univision with the kick-off scheduled for 25 minutes after the hour.

This is definitely the soccer game to be at as the US-Mexico rivalry has indisputably become the fiercest of CONCACAF.

The US team arrived on Sunday and have been training since, in preparation for tonight’s game.

Bob Bradley announced his 20-man roster last week calling up 4 European-based players and 16 Americans from MLS. I’m personally very excited to see Clint Dempsey on the pitch. Who knows, maybe he’ll do a little a dance for us?

I’m writing this from a Phoenix hotel and I’m about to head off myself to enjoy the tailgating festivities.

My prediction (although bias and not necessarily of any value): USA 2 - 1 Mexico.

Go USA!

2-1 USA? Hmmm. Boring as it may be, I’d say a draw is more likely. Goals by Johnson and Moreno. Should be a slick game!

orale buey!! good that the mexican soccer team got its teeth kicked because mexicans keep on thinking they are such a great team…..sure they have had good players but they have always been third tiered in the worldcups. I think the usa is the future of soccer for concacaf.

Al, although I really wish what you said was true, I’m afraid it’s very far from the truth. Mexico clearly had a better team on the field tonight than US did. It was clear, though, that they were more familiar with each other so their attacing sequences were much better on account of that and their individual bits of creativity and flair that were nice to see. US was a bit fortunate to win, but they played well. Also, to say they have been third tier in WC is ridiculous. They almost beat (who I thought was) the best team in WC last year in Argentina. US was last in their group. I love US and of course route for them, but I’m just facing facts here. I think since they are going young they have lots of time to build their team and get them used to each other and the international scene to become a pretty good team in the future. We will see.

adam, I know the usa is not there yet but it will be the best team in concacaf within a few years. mexico is not a great team, it is a third-tiered team and a single result does not make them great. mexico has a stronghold on concacaf politics which ensures they being always there.

One result? They are good every WC. Someone just posted they have made it to the 2nd round every WC since 1990! What a feat!! Even France who won in ‘98 and should have won in ‘06 couldn’t even manage to score a goal in ‘02!! I don’t think people realize how many amazing teams fail to make the 2nd round. The Ivory Coast was pretty freaking good and couldn’t do it. So to do it that consistently says a lot about the quality of a team. I’m not so sure if US will be so much better than Mexico in a few years. I think both teams will be good and both will be better than each other in certain areas like it has been in recent times.
