They are good every WC. Someone just posted they have made it to the 2nd round every WC since 1990! What a feat!! Even France who won in '98 and should have won in '06 couldn't even manage to score a goal in '02!! I don't think people realize how many amazing teams fail to make the 2nd round. The Ivory Coast was pretty freaking good and couldn't do it. So to do it that consistently says a lot about the quality of a team. I'm not so sure if US will be so much better than Mexico in a few years. I think both teams will be good and both will be better than each other in certain areas like it has been in recent times. Mexico clearly had a better team on the field tonight than US did. It was clear, though, that they were more familiar with each other so their attacing sequences were much better on account of that and their individual bits of creativity and flair that were nice to see. US was a bit fortunate to win, but they played well. Also, to say they have been third tier in WC is ridiculous. They almost beat (who I thought was) the best team in WC last year in Argentina. US was last in their group. I love US and of course route for them, but I'm just facing facts here. I think since they are going young they have lots of time to build their team and get them used to each other and the international scene to become a pretty good team in the future. We will see.
