Who Will Be There in 2010? 23 Tickets. Many Players.
Yanks Abroad wrote a great article about who they expect will get one of the 23 tickets to South Africa four summers from now. While a lot can happen in the next three and a half years, it’s always fun to analyze and discuss.
I agree with their comments on Onyewu, Dempsey, and Howard one hundred percent. They are all very talented players and their future careers couldn’t be brighter.
Additionally, I’m in full agreement with YA’s stance on Donovan: “Good goal against Mexico, but someone better tell him that soccer games have two halves.” So true.
I’m not personally sure about Bocanegra or Adu yet. Same for DaMarcus Beasley (great name though).
Frankly, I’m surprised Conrad was only in the middle of their list (however they did put a big green up-arrow next to his photo).
I think Taylor Twellman definitely needs a chance. Bob should give him some playing time.
Bornstein does have talent (and speed) but I agree with the YA writers saying he “played three shabby defensive halves out of four.” I noticed countless times when the Mexicans had a clear run up his side and Bornstein had to hustle back. I think we’re all thankful for his speed.
I somewhat disagree with their views on Albright. I want to see him play some more before I can form my own opinion. He was beat often on the wing against Mexico, but he seemed very solid in the box. He knocked (and sometimes tapped) a lot of balls out of danger.
Again, check out the article!

Why not have Reading or Fulham as the US team? By then either of those squads will have enough Americans in it to beat New Zealand or whoever makes it out of the “Southwest Pacific Inter-Recreational Zone”.
