Poll: Who Deserves All The Pressure? All The Crippling, Crippling Pressure

October 21st, 2008 | By: Brooks Peck | 31 Comments »

After Carter’s post the other day about Freddy Adu’s development (or lack thereof) and the fantastic comments that followed it, I got to thinking about just who the leader of the US MNT’s next generation will be. And then I got to thinking about the Phillies winning the World Series and whether a grizzly bear could beat a robot in a fight, but then I got back to thinking about that original thing.

Anyway, who should we be pinning our hopes for the future on? Adu and/or Altidore are probably the two most obvious answers, but will they be able to live up to the massive hype we’ve burdened them with? Will someone else emerge as the driving force behind this team? Will I just shut up and get to the poll already? Have your say and defend your choice in the comments below.

Good call on Bradley…I knew I was going to forget somebody. Although, he did explode recently, so I don’t know how good he’ll be after that.

I voted for Jozy, but I think Michael Bradley warrants an honorable mention. At roughly the same age, he’s getting a lot more minutes at both the club and international levels than Adu or Altidore. Of course, that probably has a little to do with his dad being the coach, but seeing as how Dad Bradley is going to continue in that job at least through the 2010 World Cup, it’ll probably continue to be the case.

But if you’re looking for superstar potential, I think Altidore is way ahead of the class.

Jose Torres may be young, but he has so much talent he has not yet released do to what ever reason and as far as being an important part of the Men’s National Team I think he will make a huge difference. He looked really great in the games he played in and seemed to work well with the other team members. He just needs to be given the chance he was never given as a young ODP member. When he plays for Pachuca it’s like his talent is being smothered, he not allowed to really play the way he knows how to play, again this may be because the other players see him as being too young. Trying watching him play for Pachuca and then watch the games he played for the US Men’s team. You will see such a difference. I think all players should be given the same chance. I feel he is being judged for where he is playing. Mexico and the US happen to have always been big rivals, but I feel that if he is given the chance to play again for the US and against Mexico he will give his whole heart as a US player. Look at the players talent not where you think he was born or who his parents are. Which I happen to know, Yes his father is from Mexico, but his mother is WHITE and born here in the US. Anyone who knows Jose personally really knows how much he wanted to be a part of one of the US Youth National Teams, but was never given the chance. don’t judge the person, judge the talent he has now and the talent he could gain by being a part of of the US Team.

Jose Torres is fine and capable young upcoming player. In many ways he outshines many team members that have been on both his Mexico team and his US team. But I believe that no matter which team he plays on he is there to represent that team. I think he is doing a great job of recognizing the people that encouraged him and helped him to become an outstanding player. And that would be the coach of his Mexico team. But he loves his country of the United States and will represent them proudly with the skills he developed while playing on a professional Mexico team. It is a shame he was not recognized for the talent he is when he was in the OPD here in the US.

Jose is a young guy that is going to give everything he has on the field. He is a guy with heart when he plays, he has talent, and he has the skill needed to take the USA Team to victory. All he needs is a chance to show everybody that he can do it:-)

JOSE TORRES PLAYED A GOOD GAME THE OTHER DAY. HE WAS PASSING REAL GOOD, COMPARED TO THE OTHE GUYS WHICH ALREADY HAVE PLAYING EXPERIENCE WITH EACH OTHER. THAT BOY (BOSCO) DESERVES TO PLAY WITH THE USA. HE ALREADY WORKED TO HARD TO NOT PLAY WITH THEM. GIVE HIM HIS CHANCE AND WATCH HIM SHINE.
